A Weekend Getaway

March 28

Sometimes all you need is a weekend away.  Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely jealous of all the Florida beach pictures in the bright sunshine, but that was not in our cards this spring break.  We  booked a cabin for the weekend at a nearby state park.  We hiked in the fresh air for many hours.  We enjoyed the sunshine.  We did not have internet access and the wifi was spotty.  The cabin did not have cable, instead we walked to the office on the property and borrowed DVDs.  We laughed as we watched “Dodgeball” not once, but twice.  We played Uno Flip.  We enjoyed grilling out and a campfire with s’mores.  My son loved going exploring and my daughter took tons of pictures and was wishing we could stay longer.

We have been in quarantine for what seems like forever, and going to a secluded cabin to hike on trails, didn’t really seem like a get away, but it was what we all needed.  Our phones were away, we laughed, we walked, we chatted.  We met friends there that we hadn’t seen in a long time.  The kids ran off climbing,  walking through streams and laughing.  Something they have all missed and desperately needed.  I didn’t hear “I am bored” once.  I didn’t hear “When are we leaving?”

Sometimes a weekend away and a change of scenery is all you need!

Perfect start to our spring break week.  The Florida sunshine will be there when we eventually make that trip!

  1. Yes! This is what we have found the past year. Sometimes, simply getting away to a cabin or hotel not in the same city is all that is needed. So glad you started your break with a break from home!
